Concept/コンセプト

Butterfly / 蝶
To express the essence of communication, I depict butterflies crossing a sea where the moon dissolves into the waves. This image reflects the relationship between the world of sound and the world of silence, drawn from the worldview I have carried since childhood. The butterflies and the overall expression of noise are not merely symbols of transformation, but visual echoes of sound itself. In the silent world, I once perceived butterflies as sounds. With the changes in my body, however, those butterflies have been replaced by vivid digital sounds after receiving my cochlear implant representing a state in which humans and technology, body and information, are fused together. This transformation is akin to a caterpillar becoming a chrysalis and then emerging as a butterfly. For me, conversation is uncertain and indirect, like the ever changing moon and sea. The moon reflects the sun, which we cannot look at directly, and like a conversation, it shifts from moment to moment.

私は対話の本質を表現すべく、月と海を行き交う蝶を描いている。この光景は「音ある世界と沈黙の世界における関係性」を表現したものであり、私が幼少時から構築してきた世界観が基となっている。この蝶や背景の表現は、単なる変容の象徴ではなく、音そのものの視覚的な残響である。私は無音世界にいる時には蝶が音のように見えていたが、今やそれらは私の身体の変化とともに鮮やかな色彩を感じさせるデジタル音へと置き換えられている。これは人間とテクノロジー、そして身体と情報が融合した状態を表すのだ。この変化は、幼虫が蛹になり、そして蝶へと羽化していく過程に似ている。また私にとって対話とは、変化していく月や海のように不確かなものであり間接的なものである。月は直視できない太陽の反射であり、交わされる会話のように刻々と変わっていくものだ。

This work explores the relationship between visual and audio-spatial perception. The theme arises from the perceptual shifts I experienced after my cochlear implant surgery, when I first entered the world of sound. The figures in the painting, like the rippling surface of water, are distorted and broken down as they are influenced by constantly shifting sounds and vibrations around them. I chose to depict parts of certain figures such as humans, deer, or butterflies with realism in order to emphasize their fragmented and distorted forms, and to convey the uncertainty between hearing and seeing. 

私はこの作品において「聴覚と視覚の関係性」を表現している。このテーマは私が人工内耳の手術を受け、音の世界に入った後に体験した知覚の変化や体験から得られた考察である。絵画の中で木漏れ日の下にいる人物は、刻々と変化していく周囲の音や振動の影響を受けながら表情を変えていく。この揺らぐ情景は、音と像の密接な関わりを因果的に示しており、あたかも水面の鏡像のように歪んだり崩れていく。私が人物、蝶、鹿のような対象の一部を克明に描こうとしてきたのは、歪みや欠けた像のありさまを誇張するためであり、視覚と聴覚の不確かさを伝えようとしている。
